I have a 3 year American Bulldog. He is a big softy until new people come in house. We put him in his crate, but he still barks and tries to get out. He is fine with people we know, but it's getting to a point where we can't let anyone in unless we put him in back garden. Any ideas?

Some house dogs are protectors and they protect the people they love. Your dog is one of these types of dog.
You might have to invest in a bark collar for the dog to train him not to bark at people who come in your home.
If he isn't aggressive or attacking the people then a bark collar should help you train him not to bark at new people that enter your home.
Dogs respond to positive reinforcement. Ignore the barking. Dont yell at him. Negative attention is still attention. It will stop in time.
