Dog Died Suddenly?

My 5 year old chocolate Lab, lost her appetite and acted tired. The next morning she had a little more energy, but still was not eating normally. There was no diarrhea or vomiting that I'm aware of. By evening she had no energy to walk, ignored my calls for her until I found her hiding. I think I momentarily stopped her from giving out at that moment.

I offered her water and chicken breast. She took it and wagged her tail and finally perked her ears a bit, then fell over/laid down and couldn't move easily. She finished her food and died. Any insight? I've gone through everything she could have got into and found nothing that would harm her.

First and foremost,So So Sorry for your lost. She did not want to disappoint you! Even in her last moments to please you, and yet wanted to have her own time.My Tabby cat Tyler did the same similar things. He always wanted to get at my fish pond.He was so sick, but he got the energy to jump in!

Next day I wanted to run to the store(15 min). Tyler had passed. He loved us so much he wanted his time, also he wanted our memory of him HAPPY! Only a Vet can tell you the cause of your pet.Remember her HAPPY!

Talk to your vet. The only way you may find out is by having an autopsy. My condolences on the loss of your pet.

You have my heartfelt condolences on your loss. Losing a fur child just takes a piece of your heart.

It sounds like you gave your baby a wonderful life. Sadly, like with people, sometimes you may never know what caused a sudden death. Like people, they have congenital issues that you may not be aware of and one day is their day to cross the rainbow bridge.

If you wanted to do an autopsy (necropsy) you could, but to me this is even more painful of a process because they sometimes come back inconclusive and then you fret and worry and what if even more.

Please take care of you! If you find your grief is too much to manage alone, seek help. Our local animal shelter has grief classes specifically for people who have lost pets. They can be very helpful.

May your pup's memory always be a blessing!

It is so hard to say why the dog really died and I am so sorry for your loss. There are plenty of reasons and one could be the dog had cancer, it could of had diabetes, or another type of sickness. Your dog was young and the only real way to find out what happened is by speaking to the vet.

Considering you did not take the dog to the vet when you first noticed he was getting sick it might be possible for the vet to fully understand why the dog actually died.
