Six years ago my husband and I adopted a male and female Dachshund. There were trying times, but for the most part they were good dogs. About 5 months ago the female escaped out of the house and was killed. The male mourned for a couple of months, but then seemed to bounce back. Lately though he has started jumping onto our bed and peeing in the middle of it when we are not around. We have tried everything to curb this, but he continues to do it. Any suggestions? We are at our wits end and considering giving him to a shelter.

Your dog has be traumatized, and may be incontinent. I would crate him at bedtime or diaper him before surrendering him.
Your dog needs to be evaluated by a Vet to rule out physical problems like a bladder infection. If this is not a physical problem you need to consider behavioral problems. Your Vet should be able to help there too. I always like to start with confidence building. Start something new with this dog. If you are not currently walking the dog that is a good place to start.
