Dog With Parvo?

My puppy has parvo. He's doing better, he's eating and drinking water but still pooping blood. How long before he stops with the bloody diarrhea? It's been six days already.

Parvo in puppies is caused by the Canine parvovirus. Puppies ages six weeks to six months are the most susceptible to parvo. The severity of parvo cases varies. One of the most common form of parvo attacks the intestinal lining of dogs and puppies and this is why they have bloody diarrhea. There is no cure for parvo.
You did not write what age your puppy is and whether parvo was determined by testing. Not all cases of bloody diarrhea with or without vomiting are caused by Parvovirus and many sick puppies are misdiagnosed as having CPV.

Does the illness last six days or he eat, drink and poop blood for six days?
Most puppies that survive the first three-to-four days make a complete recovery. Recovery times vary depending on the severity of the case, but it usually takes approximately one week for puppies to recover from parvo. One of the first signs that a dog is recovering from parvovirus is when he stops vomiting blood or foamy, yellow bile, stop drooling or foaming at the mouth.
It is also not entirely clear to me whether your puppy was treated at home or in the hospital. It usually takes 5-7 days of intravenous fluid therapy to get a puppy back on its way to being healthy once it has tested positive for parvo.
Most treated dogs are slowly reintroduced back to food after being infected by the virus. They should eat a bland diet such as cooked rice for a couple of days after going home. Then they should be slowly introduced to a gastrointestinal diet for a couple months to let their stomach and intestinal system recover. I think that if your puppy was treated in a hospital, a vet would give you detailed explanations. Therefore, I think that your puppy was treated at home. There was already a question about parvo not too long ago www.thriftyfun.com/Will-My-Dog-Survive-Parvo.html I'm glad your puppy is recovering. Your puppy does not vomit and eats on its own, which means that your puppy is really recovering. All you have to do is wait and control that your puppy is eating well and drinking enough.

And remember, if your puppy has parvo, then he will shed the virus in feces for up to three weeks. Outside of a dog, the virus can survive indoors for at least one month, and outdoors it can survive for many months and even a year. Bleach or Virkon is the most effective way of killing the virus.

If he is eating and drinking, that is most important, and he is on his way to recovery. Parvo can take several weeks to recover from. Keep in touch with your vet.

This is a puppy and can take weeks , for your fur baby to heal. The great part is that your pet is eating and drinking, which is a good sign.
