Dogs will not starve themselves. Your dog may have tooth or jaw issues, making it hard for him to eat. I would ask the vet.
This is frequently a sign of gum or tooth infection which can be very serious if left untreated. PLEASE contact your vet ASAP and be safe rather than sorry.
If there is no infection, talk to your vet about possible causes for him to stop eating and see what solutions he offers. They are the experts!!!
