I would like to donate approximately 5 boxes 18x18x24 of fabric (all types, including: velvets, wool, some lace, silks, etc.) in the Salida, California area. The recipient would need to pick up. Any ideas who to contact?

Put an ad on your local Freecycle group. People will pick it up. I leave items on my porch.
Call your local nursing homes and senior groups. they will know of some quilters, or your 4H (extension office)
You can post on Craigslist for free. Or, if you have Facebook ask if any of your friends or family would like them.
I don't know if you are aware, but at least once a week someone posts a question on this site asking for donations of fabric for various projects or charities. Am not sure that they are in your area, but they might be amenable to paying shipping costs.
Aside from posting on craigslist and Facebook groups, simply monitor this site.
