Diamond Post Medal for All Time! 1,246 Posts I made these for a friend who loves donuts so much, she collects donut shaped items. They're very easy to make, using just cork board, felt, and embroidery string. They look cute on the table, but do cause a donut craving. Be careful! ;)
Total Time: 1 hour
Yield: 2 coasters
Supplies:
- tile cork board
- large mug
- pencil
- scissors
- large marker
- sharp thin knife or X-acto knife
- white and pink felt
- coloured embroidery string
- needle
- hot glue gun with glue
Steps:
- Take a very large mug and trace it onto the cork board.
- Cut the circle out to make the donut base.
- To make a donut hole, place a large marker in the middle of the circle and trace it.
- Use your knife to cut out the donut hole.
- To make the icing, place the donut on top of a piece of felt and trace around it.
- Cut out the circle, then place the donut on top of the felt circle again. Trace the hole onto it.
- Fold the piece of felt and cut around the circle you just drew. You want this icing hole to be bigger than the donut hole.
- Cut some large squiggly waves out from around the felt to make it look more like splotchy icing.
- Repeat this whole process again using white felt to make a second donut.
- To make sprinkles, thread a needle with some embroidery string and knot the end.
- Go around the felt, sewing in little dashes to mimic pieces of icing sprinkles.
- Repeat with different colours of string.
- Add some hot glue to the back side of the felt.
- Affix the felt to the donut and hold in place, smoothing out any bumps.
- Place your cups on top. Enjoy!
