My daughter's new guy is a drummer. He is always misplacing one of the drumsticks under the couch, or in the car. So I made him this for his birthday. It's a crocheted pocket for them. I hope you like it.
Total Time: 1 hour
Yield: 1
Supplies:
- 60 yd regular 4 play yarn
- 60 yd regular crochet thread
- size I hook
- scissors
- darning needle
- 2 drumsticks
Steps:
- So, the first thing I did was work with the yarn and thread. This keeps the yarn from stretching as the thread doesn't. Then I determined how many chains would be enough to reach across two sticks, and that was 9. So I chained 10, and made my first single crochet in the second chain from the hook. Then I made 8 more.
When you are doing a solid single crochet, you always have to chain 1 more than you are working with. That was my first step.
- Then I chained 1 and turned, returning with a single in each single and repeating that pattern for 60 rows. You might not want your sticks to be covered that much, but for a 16" set, I figured 11" up gave him plenty of room to grab them when he needed them.
- Once I figured out how many rows I wanted, I got to the "center" point. Then, it was simply make that many more, essentially doubling the original count. Then I did a slip stitch across the top and cut just the yarn, about 2" and worked in the yarn tail, leaving the thread out for about at least 24". This is easier than having two tails from the rows, then another from the thread you are going to sew the sides up with.
- With my darning needle, I sewed up one side from the top to the fold, then made some stitches across the bottom so that the needle and thread is sewn into the bottom fold, and is ready to sew the side back up to the top. This saves you another tail.
- With the sticks inside, I found the sweet spot to do the center seam. I didn't want them to bang around inside it, so I made sure I had some wiggle room before I started. This is not the time to find you don't. So I sewed a running stitch down the middle from the top to the bottom, then back up doing the same, but filling in the first spaces with another stitch. Kind of like what a sewing machine does.
- I then took out the sticks and did the center without them, having made sure they would fit. Super easy if you crochet and sew. He is going to love them. N-JOY!!
