Dyeing Hair After Bleaching?

I bleached my hair tonight, July 24th 2019, and it's still a little brassy. I'm just wondering if the emerald green permanent dye I bought will turn out that color or do I need another bleach session?

Do a strand test first. There will be no surprises then.

It will look great but if you want it to match the exact shade on the bottle of the green, you will want to lift it lighter.

Rebleach it in a couple days then add the color you want

The level to which the hair has been pre bleached will determine the final results. There are two reasons the hair is pre bleached prior to toning with the final shade. First would be to remove dark pigment that would interfere with obtaining the desired results. An example would be: if your virgin color is dark brown and you want a honey blond, it would be necessary to pre bleach the hair to at least the gold stage before applying the honey gold toner. Leaving gold in the hair would provide a base for a vibrant and healthy looking honey blond.

If your virgin color is dark brown and you want a pale platinum blond, it would be necessary to pre bleach the hair to a pale yellow/almost white before toning with the platinum toner. There must be no gold or yellow left in the hair as this combined with the blue/ violet base of the platinum toner could result in an off color with a greenish cast.

The second reason for pre bleaching is to obtain proper porosity. High fashion blonds and the newer bold hair colors are said to be delicate toners rather than harsh dyes. The hair is required to have the proper porosity in order for it to accept and hold the toner.

Emerald green applied to hair without proper porosity may look OK fro a week or two, but will quickly fade because the hair was not porous enough for the green toner to fully penetrate and be deposited into the hair shaft.

If the toner is just 'sitting on the hair shaft' rather than being inside the shaft, it will soon be shampooed away.

You did not mentioned a brand. Most color manufacturers provide an instructional brochure showing the level of lightness to which the hair should be pre bleached prior to applying a given toner. You should refer to such a brochure.

I've never colored hair emerald green. Experience tells me some yellow should serve as a base for green color and help provide a rich and healthy looking color.

But, 'brassy' implies reddish gold colors. I don't think any red, and little if any gold should be left in the hair prior to toning with a green color. Sight unseen, I would suggest further bleaching before toning.

Green is an unnatural hair color. I would imagine it could be a pleasant change provided the hair was kept healthy and glossy.
