Many stores are giving you the option to get a printed receipt, e-receipt or both.
If you don't want to bring home additional trash (receipts) that will eventually get tossed out or misplaced having the e-receipt option sent to your e-mail is extremely useful. E-receipt is better than not getting a receipt because you can still review your purchase immediately and have your receipt saved encase you need to make a future exchange or return!
Tip: Make a separate e-mail account for all of your e-receipts to go to - that way if you need to reference them (or make an exchange/return) they will all be organized in that e-mail. For mine personally, my e-mail account is short, just 6 characters that way it'll be quick and easy to enter in on the keypad or verbally to the cashier to type in.

Great tip! Another good reason to get e-receipts is because of the heat or pressure sensitive receipt printers that are commonly used. I have many old receipts that are unreadable. Some are entirely blank while others have turned dark. If I had e-receipts, I could print out another one any time I needed.
Also, many stores keep track of your purchases, especially if it is a large dollar amount. I've used that feature at Costco often with no trouble.
That sure is a great tip.
I've had the same problem, old receipts that I've kept, some of them are totally blank, as though they had disappearing ink on them" and they're of no use now.
Thanks for reinforcing the importance of this issue.
You are correct. That is another reason why opting for an e-receipt would be nice too because I also have receipts that have faded or completely turned blank.
Membership stores like Costco or even reward programs like Lowes can pull up our receipt when our membership/reward program which is a lifesaver! Other stores like Target are able to retrieve our purchases within x amount of time if we used a credit card.
