Easy Corn on the Cob

Bronze Feedback Medal for All Time! 101 Feedbacks

The first tip is if you want to cook your corn on the cob with absolutely no silk left on it. You leave it in the husk and for each ear cook it in the microwave on high for 4 minutes. Then take it out with oven gloves on both hands and cut off the end where the husk is attached, at least 1/2 inch from the end. The take the top of the husk and holding it firmly, squeeze and the corn will slip out where you cut it with no silk left!

Second tip is if you want to cook a lot of corn for a crowd and your stove is busy. Shuck the corn as usual, then put it in a cooler that has been cleaned well. Pour boiling water over the top of the corn so that it is covered. Immediately close the lid and 30 minutes later your corn will be cooked!

Ha, Ha, Ha! I am the friend that emailed you that microwave corn on the cob cooking with easy no silk husking tip but didn't want to submit here until I'd actually tested it. Great Granny Vi did test it and let me know last night that it works. ;-)

Yes this tip works, however, a Doctor just told my husband and me the other day not to ever do this. He said to shuck, remove all silk, and wash before cooking (the old-fashioned way). His reason was the farmers spray the fields against weevils, borers and other corn pests. This lays on the husk and silk.

When cooking in microwave or barbecue with husk and silk on, the chemical gets into the corn and ingested by us. If it is cleaned and washed before cooking, the corn is perfectly safe to eat. As far as I know, this is just his opinion, but it scared me enough to go back to the "old-fashioned way".
