Gold Post Medal for All Time! 555 Posts Using glycerine soap cubes and your favorite oils, colors, or spices you can make lovely personalized gifts created for each of your recipients! A wonderful sinus clearing/headache reducing soap, revitalizing foot soap, hand scrubber, etc!
Easier than it looks, basically just melt, pour and unmold. The look is a unique, valuable, homemade. and useful gift!
Try them!
Total Time: 120 minutes, including 80 minutes cooling time
Yield: Approx. 8 bars
Supplies:
- 1 32 oz. box of glycerin soap refill (cubes) Ebay ($12.00)
- your choice of essential oils (I used peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, and grapefruit)
- optional: food coloring, lavender petals or any potpourri, luffa sponge
- old plastic containers (TV dinner dishes worked great!)
- spoon or Popsicle stick
Steps:
- Break apart the glycerine cubes, either by hand or with a knife and place them into a clean larger tin can. Place the can into a larger pan 1/3 filled with water. You are creating a double boiler this way.
- Boil water until the glycerin inside melts. Use a spoon or Popsicle stick to skim off any stuff on top.
- You may add your scents now and/or a drop or two of food coloring if desired. You may choose not to add your oils now if you are making multiple scented soaps. Instead you can add the oil to the luffa or the mold that you will be pouring your melted glycerine into.
- With oven gloves on, remove the inner can holding your glycerine, and pour it into any plastic containers you would like to use. Old margarine or salad containers are a great size, as well as, TV dinner containers.
If you want to use luffas fit them into individual containers, as shown. I also sprinkled potpourri and lavender into two other containers. Check out your recycling bin for containers. I am always delighted when I do! - Once you pour the glycerine into the mold, leave the mold sit for about 30 minutes to cool a bit. After 30 minutes, place in the freezer for another 30 minutes.
- Once the time is up, leave out for 10 minutes and then push the soap out of the mold. It's pretty easy!
- Bonus Touches: You may use a letter opener and twist it in a circle to make a round hole in a bar to make a soap on a rope! You can also cut up a large block into smaller soaps or use cookie cutters for kiddie soap!
- These make nice gifts, just place in a bag or plastic wrap, or even a soap dish. Great for a housewarming party or party favors too! Eucalyptus is great for sinus relief, peppermint for headaches and for fresh feet soaps! The lavender or potpourri are great abrasives for gardeners' hands!
