Our grandsons love waffles and especially love chocolate chip waffles. We just got a new waffle maker that makes the larger Belgian style waffles. We found that mixing chocolate chips in the batter makes a mess on the waffle iron when they melt.
We solved the problem by baking the waffles plain first, then when they come out of the waffle maker nice and hot, we sprinkle the chocolate chips in the squares. The boys love it this way now and we just cut the strips of waffles so they can just pick up a strip and enjoy their "chocolate chip waffle". The chips melt in the squares and no mess on the waffle iron.
