Eating Fresh Peas That Have Sprouted?

I had some podded fresh peas in the fridge for a few days and when I went to cook them, I noticed that most had sprouted small roots. I was wondering if it's safe to leave them to sprout further and eat them raw in salad. Or do they need to be cooked first?
