My friend was stabbed and past away. He didn't work, so is his son eligible to get Social Security?

Who is the guardian of your friend's son? That is the person that should be checking into it. Is your friend's name on the birth certificate? The legal guardian would be the person that should talk to the local Social Security Office and I imagine that guardian would be the birth mother or another blood relative.

The childs guardian or surviving parent would need to contact the social security office. They will need to make an appointment first, then take the childs birth certificate listing the deceased as the parent, death certificate, social security numbers and possibly more paperwork.

If the father didn't pay into social security the son is not eligible. None gets social security unless they pay in.
