Eligibility for Social Security Survivor's Benefits?

My daughter's father died at the age of 16 (I had her as a teenager). I have a job, but he never had a job. Can she receive survivor benefits?

Usually a person needs ten years of work for their family to qualify for that program. But if you're working and still can't afford the bills, you may qualify for other programs. Like SSI which is a supplemental social security income, or one or more of the public assistance programs your county or state may have. But if the father did receive social security disability while he was alive, she would get some of that.

Best of luck to you and your daughter.
Sorry for your loss.

Hi - your best bet is to gather all your information (SS#'s for yourself and your daughter) and go to your local Social Security office and ask them your questions.

Your husband must have had a SS number if he & you filed income taxes? If so take his number also.
