Have you done the regular cleaning routine? Perhaps some thread/lint is jamming it. When was your machine last oiled?
Lastly, it's possible that an electrical problem is the cause for an in reverse motion.
Your bobbin housing area needs cleaning of build up, string, dust, and debris from fabric sewing. This build up could make your sewing machine malfunction !
Sometimes problems like this can be a simple fix but may take several steps so check out instructional sites for help.
You may need to unplug and then hold reverse button down after plugging in and turning on. Hold button down for several stitches to see if the speed changes.
Elna has a FAQ site and also a link to support - maybe they will help but probably direct you to your nearest Elna store or repair shop.
Here is a YouTube video but not same machine. Usually the sewing mechanisms are similar when solving problems so see how this one looks.

Here is a good link about the same problem that might help (Brother's machine but same problem).

There is a free manual online if you do not have one.
You can try to open the top of the machine and use hair dryer to heat up the inside of the machine because it sounds like the reverse button is stuck. Normally the hot air can free up the button. After you get it free then drop a small drop of oil inside to make sure it is loose again and working.
