Empisal Overlocker Is Not Stitching?

My Empisal overlocker's foot is not moving. It makes the noise but no movement. I've been unemployed for more than a year, I'm 55 and I'm single. I am doing needlework for an income till I find a job. I can't afford to take it in for repairs I barely make enough to survive. Can I fix it myself?

I am not sure the model number of your machine so it is hard to find a book to help you repair this on your own. However, I did find a website that you might find helpful in repairing the machine on your own. This site is for overlockers and gives you a lot of step by step instructions that can help you narrow down the problem and fix it.

You do not state a model number so it is difficult to be specific but if you have a manual there should be some reference to this in the 'troubleshooting' section.

To offer suggestions we would really need to know what happened before you started having this problem.
How long has it been since your machine was serviced? You may not have the finances to pay for taking your machine to a shop but this may be your only choice.

You can fill out the form on the Emprisal website and hopefully they can help you. You will have to have your model number or they will not help you.

You can join this site (free) and maybe someone on their forum can help you.

If you do not have a manual you can probably find one on this site. They have several Empisal manuals and you really need one if you plan to keep sewing.

If your machine was just serviced in June I am of the opinion your repair shop should give you a generous discount on replacing your belt as it seems they should have noticed the belt was in need of replacing when they serviced the machine.

If it is a broken belt then you may be able to have it replaced at a Sears Service Center as they usually service all models of machines.
They will also have the correct belt and may be a less money than a regular sewing machine shop and many times you can wait while repairs are completed (a repair like this).
Google Sears Service Center with your zip code to find one near you.

Otherwise, if you are handy at all, you may be able to fix this yourself.
There are videos on many repairs but most will not relate to your specific machine so that may be a problem.
If you need a new belt, you will need your manual to find a part number and we still do not know what model number you have so we cannot help you with that.

It is hard to tell what is going on with your description. If you are handy, check YouTube for troublshooting videos. Here is a link:

Your situation sounds very stressful. If you do need to get it fixed and the repairs are not affordable, you could consider doing a little crowd sourcing on your social media (like Facebook) and do a Go Fund me for part of the cost.

People can be quite generous if they know you need help.

Post back with an update! Sending up prayers and good wishes for you!

Good day. Thank you for your answer. I don't know about the asking for help on Facebook people can be rude. Been through that when I lost my job a year after I've lost my son.
