I was given several containers of non-fat, 1% skim milk, plain yogurt on November 8th that had expiration date of November 5th. I took them home, opened up one, and well, it did not look like any yogurt I had previously purchased. I tasted it, and it was very tart. Thing is, I have never purchased non-fat before, so i do not know what it is suppose to taste like. Does the tart taste mean it is not good?

Plain yogurt is more tart tasting than regular yogurt. It is "real' yogurt, most of the stuff with fruit added is little more than a dessert. Plain yogurt is an acquired taste, really. I doubt the taste had anything to do with the expired part. I don't recommend it but a couple of months ago I had a tub of yogurt that expired a year ago and it was never opened, I opened it and ate it up in a hurry. I am still alive to tell about it. Yogurt is a fermented food to start with, so expirations are not as vital as they would be with other foods.
Personally, I think that spoiled yougart has either a really noticeable off-taste or has developed a mold. We have eaten fruit that was over due by 5 or 6 months.
