I just was in to the dermatologist office to have some cancerous skin spots removed from my mom's tip of her ear. The dermatologist gave us this information and I am sharing it here for the benefit of everyone. You may not know that sunscreens need to have certain ingredients and they need to be given time to soak in and reapplied according to the following guidelines:
- Apply sunscreen 30 to 60 minutes before sun exposure because it takes time for the sunscreen to combine with the protein in the skin to be the most effective.
- Water resistant sunscreens are effective for 40 minutes only. Waterproof sunscreens are effective for 80 minutes when used in the water.
- There are many over-the-counter products. Any of these are adequate providing that you follow these guidelines.
- The sunscreen should SPF -15 or greater. The sunscreen you choose must contain one of the following UVA agents: Zinc, Titanium, Oxybenzone, or parsol1789.

Are you aware of the new research that shows that sunscreens contain cancer causing ingredients and should be used cautiously? It's so difficult to know what to do.
