Photo Description
It is the early evening of January 1st 2017 and we are treated with a clear sky and fairy tale moon. You can almost imagine a child snuggle up on it in a blanket. Does anyone know what the bright star is "nearby" ?The next night - 2nd January - the star has moved to the right hand side of the moon.

I have just learned that the bright star near the moon is not a star but the planet Venus

Well, you were part right. Venus is often called 'The Evening Star'. Do keep an eye on her. At this time of year she is very visible and sometimes unusually bright.
