This is an antique desk that we wanted to "perk up" a little without sanding the whole thing so it would keep its antique, vintage value. This was a much simpler idea for bringing "back to life" an old piece of furniture.
Total Time: 4 hours
Supplies:
- old rags
- lacquer thinner
- wipe on varnish
Steps:
- Because the desk had a dark stain on it and you could not see the beauty or grain of the wood on the entire piece, we dipped a rag into a bowl of lacquer thinner and wiped down the surface of the entire desk. It removed the dark stain and showed the beauty of the oak underneath. This step took about three hours. Pictured is the top of the desk and the side showing the before picture.
- Once the desk was dry, we applied a wipe on varnish to the surface to protect the wood. The last two pictures show the completed project. Easiest refinishing project we have ever done!
