Feeding a Dog with Parvo?

My dog was diagnosed yesterday with parvo. She was really bad so we took her to the vet and they sent us home with the fluids and medicine to get her rehydrated and stop throwing up and the antibiotics. She is doing great today it has been 14 hours of no throwing up, so we attempted water. She is holding down water and is excited to drink it. So we tried food. She will not eat her food or chicken or rice. Idk what to do. It's like she wants to eat, but she won't. Any suggestions?

so sorry to hear you go through that! Our dog when I was a kid had parvo and he recovered. The vet gave him massive amounts of medication. It took him about a month but he came through.

If your dog got caught early on, there's a better likelihood she'll recover. I would just give her time and it si a good sign she's drinking. Unless she was emaciated I would not worry too much about forcing her to eat, and if so, maybe ask your vet if she can have some bone broth or other kind of meat broth, homemade.

I look on line and people advocate everything from force feeding with tubes to feeding raw meat to this 'bland diet for parvo' from this site: Bland Diet Mixture:

1 1/2 cups creamed full-fat cottage cheese
1 large hard-boiled egg, chopped
1/2 cup dry Cream of Wheat, Cream of Rice or WHITE boiled rice cooked up to two cups.
Cook Cream of Wheat, Cream of Rice or white boiled rice according to package directions and let cool. Add the egg and cottage cheese. Mash it all together. Refrigerate left-overs.

Note: Brown rice has too much fiber in it at this time and can irritate inside the small intestine causing more damage.

I have no idea about that and don't necesarly advocate for it but thought it might be worth mentioning

good luck!

You need to wait 24 hours before introducing food. It is a good sign that the puppy is drinking. When you introduce food, start with the baby food jars of chicken.

Call your vet and check in with him or her as well.

Your dog can go 8 weeks without food. The most important thing in liquids. Use children's Pedialyte instead of water so your pet with get the most nutrient possible.

Uh... no, your dog can't go eight weeks without food. It would be dead.
