I'm a single mother of 2. I receive disability and some government help. I have been living with my sister and I just qualified for my own apartment. I'm in need of furniture. My income source is barely enough to pay rent and expenses. I don't have enough left to buy furniture. If any one can help me find away to find some very cheap furniture it would be very much appreciated. Thank you, a family in need.

Go to the Salvation Army office and tell them what you need, and they will give you a voucher to take to their thrift store. There you will get whatever they have on hand, free, of the stuff that you need. This won't include TVs, computers, etc. Also most Salvation Army thrift stores, won't let you pick from their best furniture. There is also Craig's list and freecycle.org. Be aware though that the websites that I mentioned you will be expected to transport your own furniture.
Good Will stores might be able to help you also. Also watch along the streets, many people put out old furniture that is in good condition, they are just tired of it. Do not be afraid to take an old dresser and paint it with painters touch spray or brush on paint. I did an old dresser of mine, a bathroom vanity and they came out great. So if you are handy with a brush, you can make somebody's trash into your treasure.
Hi - you must be new to this board as this question is asked and answered (with same information) almost every week.
I live in Florida and someone with 2 small/school age children receive more help and assistance than someone working full time at minimum wage so maybe you are not receiving everything that is available?
Your local church (hopefully one that you and your children attend) is always a good place to start. My church will put info on items that someone needs in our weekly bulletin and this works very well.
Usually where children are involved, food stamps should cover anything they will need for a month (and usually better quality than someone without kids). I am only speaking of Florida but I believe other states are about the same - not sure about that.
I am fortunate, had a good job, retired and have never needed financial help but I have helped many who did need this help.
Usually the ones in need just do not know the way to get help and so they ask on sites like this.
. Please go to different places and ask them to help you with information on all the places that give assistance.
Salvation Army is a good place to start. They may have a list of all the local and government places that might be able to help you.
Check out freecycle.org for a local group. Great group and I have helped and been helped many times by the wonderful people I have met through it.
