Finding Dead Birds in Yard?

A friend is finding lots of dead birds in her yard, front and back, (9 at last count). We have the same type feeders, use the same type feed and we have no problems. She just now saw a huge hawk eating one bird with two more dead at his feet. Could this hawk be killing birds and leaving them? She has taken a bird to the health unit, but they didn't do a thing. What could be the cause and/or how do you find out?

It is possible the birds are crashing into your friends house. The hawk may have recently caught the bird you saw it eating. Hawks wouldnt leave birds they have killed. They arent scavengers unless they are very hungry, so I dont think the hawk was eating the dead birds either.
