I am part of the AAMA Chattanooga chapter and we are currently working on a project to send care packages to a full company of troops in Iraq (about 150-200 troops.) I have been feverishly emailing and trying to find companies that will donate and help us help our troops. We would appreciate any help that anyone has to offer on who we can contact to get donations for food, calling cards, personal hygiene products and such. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for supporting our troops and God Bless.
You can contact WalMart/Target etc. They usually have certain amount allotted each month to donate and have specific dates to do this. Also, car dealerships may help kick off by adding to auto commercial that they are collecting stuff for troops. You might contact local dentists they often have so much free toothpaste/brushes on hand, even denture powders, etc.
Then contact your local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), DAV (Disabled American Veterans) American Legion, Elks Clubs etc. for help. These are non-profit, yet they participate in Community services and will help active duty and many do. So get out there contact and ask everyone. You have a great idea, as a wife of a Disabled US Navy veteran (GulfWar), I thank you for thinking of our troops!
Each state has its own VFW State Department contact them also. Every Veterans Administration Hospital has service officers for, VFW, DAV, and American Legion. They will help you find who you need. Or look up in local phone book for local VFW etc. Good Luck.
