My children and I have lost everything and are now restarting. How do I go about finding out if I can get help getting furniture or if someone is giving anything away?

Free cycle, facebook swap shops, craigslist.. Also talk to thrift stores, such as the salvation army and others--some will give items if you meet certain guidelines.
Freecycle and Craigslist are very good for this. You can search ads or put your own wanted ad. You can also drive around before garbage day and see what people have put out on the curb.
Find your local craigslist site or pennysaver -- loads of free stuff!
All of the places mentioned are excellent sources for local help. You do not state why you are having to start over and most of the time organizations have certain criteria for helping families but they are usually very helpful when children are involved.
