Finding Free Furniture?

I was hoping that somebody could help me out with ideas for where to find free furniture. I've lost everything in a house fire with no content insurance.

I'm sorry to hear! Red Cross usually provides some assistance and you could also check Craigslist and your local church!

first of all i'm terribly sorry for your loss

there's a site called freecycle.com where you can get free things. Also check the free section of craigslist.org, or go to facebook buy sell trade groups.

You can always walk around the neighborhood the day before trash day too. I've picked up great pieces that way, especially in swanky neighborhoods or where college kids live. For college kids, you can wander around dorms or student housing the last week of classes in either semester (december or may) and pick up cool things.

i have to add you a warning about free stuff, especially from the curbs. Bed bugs have made a major comeback and sometimes even purchasing things you can get infested. But definitely, especially picking things up from the curb, you run a huge risk

simply inspect everything that you buy very well, and if you see any black specs or insect skeleton casements, avoid!! If you get clothes and smaller items, run them thru the clothes dryer before putting them in your closet.

A want ad on Freecycle or Craigslist will yield results. You could also pick up furniture off the curb the night before garbage collection

Try a local thrift shop, usually if a piece off furniture has been donated and it is slightly soiled or has a small tear in the fabric they would be only to glad to donate it !!
