Finding Free Furniture?

I just moved to Cincinnati with my kids. I came up here with nothing, no money. I need help with beds and clothing for my kids. What can I do or how can I get help with beds and clothing?

Look in the phone book or online for women's shelters, St. Vincent De Paul, Goodwill, or Salvation Army thrift stores, and churches in your area. All these organizations will be able to help you or point you to some place that will. Good luck & God bless you in your new life.

I'm assuming you have a place to live and some sort of income?
You can always place a request on Craigslist and Freecyle (your zip) and someone may have something you can use. Please remember, most people will want you to be able to pick up whatever they have so keep that in mind.

I have a couple of links that have a multitude of places to ask for help and since children are involved, many of these organizations will make quick arrangements.

Hi, New to Cincinnati! I'm from the Cleveland area - so welcome to Ohio. Here's EXACTLY what you need to do. Get on this site: www.freecycle.org. Near the bottom of the page, it will ask for your location - type in "Cincinnati, OH." I just did it and was thrilled to see that there are 3 Cincinnati Groups. One is for "Inside City Limits" and it has 3,400 members - that's a lot. The "Eastern Suburbs" group has 5,700 members - HUGE! And the "Western Suburbs" group has 3,500 members. Cincinnati has obviously grasped the concept! It's EASY to join and you can join all of them. Freecycle is a nation-wide concept that serves people who have neat stuff that they no longer have a need for and others that have needs that must be met.

You NEVER have to give a reason for why you need an item - people just want to get it out of their home! Of course, if you post your needs on the groups - it's always nice to offer things, too. But that's never been a requirement that I've ever seen. I won't tell you what I saw offered on the three groups - they could be taken by the time you e-mail the giver - but the items were everything from large appliances to furniture to kids clothing and toys. I really hope this helps - it is cost free. See? There are tons of great people out there!

i certainly agree with Barbara about Freecycle as there are a lot of nice people who just want to get rid of things they no longer need and feel it is a shame to just put it by the curb for trash day.

The biggest problem that I have found is the pick up and/or delivery of large items. Since you are new to Cincinnati you may not have any friends to help you and I do not think this is something you can do by yourself. It will take a lot of checking out the offers to be sure the "giver" can deliver the items to your home - and - place them in your home. Believe me - this is a problem that cannot always be resolved easily so please be upfront about everything and you might find someone who has enough friends that will be willing to help you out.

In addition to Freecycle and Craigslist you can ask churches to help

You can reference this website and hopefully one of these places will be useful for you and your kids.

If you have a Facebook account, a lot of people in the sell section also give things for free. But I do not think they delivery..
