Finding Free Furniture?

I am a single mom of 3 girls. I just moved into a house. I need help with a bed for myself and dressers for me and my children. I am on welfare and am struggling very hard. I have looked all over Craigslist for free furniture and I'm getting nowhere. Can somebody please help me with other suggestions for finding the pieces I need?

Look at the Goodwill Outlet. Not a regular one but an outlet. I hope you find one nearby! Sometimes the furniture is scarred or needs a little repair work but most pieces are $3-$5. Good luck and big hugs to you and to your girls! They are lucky to have a mom who takes good care of them. www.gwoutletstorelocator.com/

I have visited a Goodwill Outlet once earlier this year and furniture section was very reasonable. Everything seemed to be definitely under $10.00.

They had decent condition couches, tables, dressers, tv stands, desks and so forth.

Even bikes for $5.00. I found the clothes and appliances, electronics steep for the quality though but every location varies.

The Goodwill Outlet would be a good option, you may have to rent a truck. Home Depot has a good deal 90 minutes for $19.99 I believe. Or, U-Haul the smallest truck is $19.99 + cents per mileage and you get 24 hours.

Nextdoor.com and Craigslist.org are my top two favourite sites for finding these things. You'll need an account for Nexdoor. Good luck!

  • Call local churches they may be able to help.
  • Freecycle you could check out.
  • Check on garbage day you would be surprised at what people throw away.
  • College campuses on moving out day some just throw furniture away.
  • Call Habitat for Humanity here is the number (905) 637-4446.
  • Salvation Army's or second hand stores, not free but cheap.
  • Run an ad telling people of your situation.

You could post on Craigslist seeking free furniture, instead of looking for free and hopefully someone sees your post!
