I am trying to find free living and dining room furniture. I just moved from Florida back to Virginia and am trying to re-establish myself after my father's passing. Can you please point me in the right direction? I am a single mom.

Most people would want you to haul the items they're giving for free. If you can haul, I'd check on Craigslist under For Sale > Free. Near the end or beginning of the month, I find a lot of apartments/condos, some homes place stuff outside because they're moving out and put free.
Also another tip, if you live near Goodwill Outlet, furniture is very discounted.
My Freecycle group gives away furniture all the time. You can also look on the curb the night before garbage pickup.
My favourites are Craigslist, Freecycle, and Nextdoor.com :) Just enter your zip code and see what is in the free sections
all above answers are good but I would not discount yard sales and simple curbside pickup.
In a nice area of town right before trash day people will often put perfectly good furniture they don't want to deal with on the curb to sell. Always make sure you disinfect everything you find on the street or at yard sales
additionally in any craigslist section under FREE there will be ads for CURBSIDE ALERT where people are listing that they are in fact putting items on the curb for others to pick up. A lot of good things to be had that way.
