Finding Old Fireplace in Remodeled House?

We moved into our home a year ago and were told there was a chimney for a fireplace. The house was built in '54 and has been remodeled. How can I figure out where it was without tearing out all of my drywall?

You should be able to find it using a "stud finder"...there should be a large gap between the studs where the fireplace was...

I would think there would be evidence in the attic.
