Finding a Free Bed?

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a bed. I don't have one. I'm disabled and haven't had one in 3 years.

I would get in contact with your social worker to see if they could help guide you in the right direction.

Other options:

  • Research seniors and disability organizations in your area and ask if there are any programs that can help get you a free bed, or any grants. Example: You can check with Salvation Army.
  • You can also check free on Craigslist, NextDoor, Freecycle
  • Reach out to neighbors, family, family friends and see if they have a bed to let you have!

Freecycle has a lot. People who are moving often give many things away.

There are many places to look/search for a free bed but you must always consider the source as used bedding can carry hidden bedbugs that will be a nightmare to eliminate from your house/apartment.

  • The biggest problem with getting free furniture is having the right kind of transportation to pick it up (and having help to load and unload) as most places (especially Salvation Army, Goodwill, thrift stores, Freecycle, Craigslist, etc) will not have anyone to help load and unload (they usually have signs posted stating they will not help with pickup/loading).
  • If you answer any ads from these sites be sure you ask questions about pickup and delivery.
  • Beds are large and heavy and very cumbersome to load and unload and place in a home. Single beds are more manageable.
  • Churches will many times help a disabled person and they may even provide help delivering and unloading. Talk with someone in any church office near you (you do not have to be a member to ask for help).

  • Nextdoor.com may be a good place to search as these will be people in your area and they may also help with pickup and delivery.
  • nextdoor.com/
  • If there are any furniture stores in your area (and you have help with pickup and delivery) you can check with them as they will many times have used bedding they have picked up when delivering new bedding.

I am so sad to hear of your situation. Do you belong to any groups through United Way for your disability? Many groups like the MS Society, Lupus Society, etc. have support services so maybe you can try that avenue.

Churches or other religious groups may also have sources to assist you to buy a NEW mattress (offering funds to pay at reduced costs) and some even have congregants who will help deliver. If you belong to a religious group, ask.

Sending up prayers for you! Post back with an update!

Hi,

I would get in touch with the Salvation Army and ask them how you can get a free bed.
