Put an ad in Freecycle and Craigslist. Also, go around neighborhoods the night before garbage collection. Many people put perfectly good items to the curb.
On Craigslist - you will find a lot of people giving away their furniture like dressers.
You'll find the section under: For Sale > Free
facebook swap shops, craiglist, freecycle and ask at thrift stores that are charity run. We have one here that will give products if you meet certain income levels.

Sometimes you can get help at your local churches and you could try some of the web sites mentioned but here is one that is also available.
