You could post on NextDoor community for neighbors nearby. But the delivery of a fridge is really hard unless someone is willingly going to delivery and have a large truck.

You could also try:

  • Word of mouth, ask family, friends, neighbors
  • Churches/Charities
  • Furniture Banks
  • May qualify for LIHEAP

Please be very careful with a free refrigerator appliances not properly cared for can harbor mold. Also older models are often not energy efficient and can cost a lot to run. Also they are hard to get--meaning you need a truck and a few strong people to pick it up and get it to you. Not everyone has those resources.

If you have a Habitat for Humanity Restore in your town, see if they can help you locate an inexpensive and cleaned piece. Often they offer pieces at good prices AND include delivery and installation.

Depending on your needs, there are small cube refrigerators that are not expensive. Some of the mini fridges start at 29.95 NEW. Maybe that could be an interim until you can save for a big one. Most of these are not heavy and can be lifted by one strong person or two not so strong ones.

Do you have a college in your town? If you do, I suggest befriending their maintenance staff and seeing if they can hook you up with a dorm fridge that a student leaves behind when the term ends. Colleges are different so terms can end at different times. Again, you will need a way to get it to you, but these small fridges often fit into the back of a car.

When I was much younger, I often curb shopped in and around two of Pittsburgh's huge colleges and I was able to gather so many items I needed (or could sell) that it was sinful. The waste is huge and everything I picked worked just fine and was immaculate! It was amazing.

My last suggestion is if you need a full size refrigerator and have good social media network, start yourself a Go Fund Me and ask for help. People can be very generous if they know you need help. Then you can shop for a piece where you get delivery and installation.

Post back with an update! Prayers for solutions.

Please reread Pghgirl's answer as she has a lot of good advice about getting a refrigerator for free.
Most free refrigerator's will be older models and may have problems that no one will tell you about.

There is almost no way to get a refrigerator delivered without paying for that delivery and if it has to be carried above the ground floor (and no elevator) most will not deliver or will charge a much higher fee.
Our local Habitat Restore usually has good buys on appliances but they do not usually give discounts to anyone and they presently charge $35-$50 to deliver an appliance. Most refrigerators only have to be plugged in so that should not require extra help.

You do not say very much about your financial situation and you do not give your age or if you are in school or working so it is difficult to provide very much workable information.

You may be able to post a wanted/needed ad on the Nextdoor site and perhaps some of your neighbors will be able to help you.
If you live near a church then you may be able to ask for help - pay a visit to their office and explain your situation.

You can try a site called Freecycle to post a help wanted ad in your area. You can also see if anyone in your area is giving away a free refrigerator. I know on FB they have a place where you can post for help and you can also try Craigslist and ask there if anyone can help you.
