Finding the Model and Serial Number on a New Home Sewing Machine?

I just bought a vintage New Home Light Running sewing machine. It's in a beautiful wood cabinet with 3 drawers on each side and a double table top. (1 opens to the left and the other to the right) The only numbers I can find are on a stamped plate behind the neck of the hand wheel. The numbers are NHR 113588. Is this the model number or serial number? If it's the model number where do I find the serial number or vice versa? How can I find out when it was made? I have searched on the internet for 2 hours straight and I can't find anything about this machine.

ISMACS International has a site that will help identify the sewing machine make and model. There you can also find all the manuals you need for each of the different machines. ismacs.net/.../home.html

On the plate of the machine, it has a sting of 5 or 6 numbers which is normally followed by some letters. The letters can be before or after the number. This is your model number on the sewing machine. Now that you know this number you can go to the site I have listed above and find the manual for the machine and other information about this machine.

It is possible your machine was made around 1892 but you can send your question to Ismac's and they can tell you something about it.
They will need several pictures of the machine and the number plate.

They are very good and may also be able to help you with a manual (if you need one) and you can always contact them in the future if you need help with your machine.

You will have to join but you can join their message part for free.
You can post your photos on Photobucket or Facebook or any other free site that will let anyone see the images (not on a private site.)
If you love your machine you will never be disappointed with the information and help you can receive from this group.
They are not interested in selling sewing machines and will not discuss value but will discuss anything else about vintage or antique machines.

You can also look at the bottom of the machine. The number you gave sounds like the serial number
