I have two antique dressers. One of them doesn't have any visible markings or company name. My mom said she bought it in 1978 at an antique store in downtown Portland for $100. It is in great condition and the mirror is removable.
The second one has the marking Gevurtz furniture, Portland Oregon on the back. It is also in good condition. I looked up that company and they made dressers from 1899 to 1940.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I figure out their value? Thanks so much.

These are gorgeous!!! I have never heard of the Gevurtz brand so I was excited to poke around and see what is out there.
There is some info on the company...probably what you saw..but I couldn't find any similar pieces that are listed or sold.
Valuing furniture is done by finding identical (ideally) or VERY CLOSE similars. This way you do apples to apples and can get a good feel for what someone will pay (never look at open auctions--people can ask what they want, always look for SOLD examples.
What I do know is the simple, elegant vanity style dressers in general, in today's market, depending on where you are, often command good money (in the high hundreds). Now these are NOT your exact pieces and are Pittsburgh values.
The swivel mirror pieces (especially the more masculine ones like this one) where I am, can fetch into the thousands if they are in pristine shape.
Unlike a lot of the ornate old pieces out there, these simpler pieces can still command decent amounts. If they were more ornate, not so much.
That all said, I strongly recommend having a pro look at these and give you a realistic value for your town....if you are in Portland, and these are in high demand, you could fetch a lot of money. If there is a glut of them, a lower value. They can also help you ID the swivel mirror piece.
Since furniture is hard for the average guy or gal to sell, see if the dealer will either consign it for you or buy it outright. Sadly selling valuable pieces like this on your own is hard as people don't want to fork over big bucks to just anyone. They are much more willing to pay big bucks from reputable dealers/shops.
Furniture sales are such wonky business!! Post back what you learn!! Thanks for sharing these classic pieces!!
Hi,
These are beautiful pieces! They are heavy and they are showing places of use, which means they are not reproductions. The top is solid and one piece. I would think that they are worth way more than $100.00 by now.
Blessings,
Robyn
