Finish on Wood Side Table Damaged by Oven Cleaner?

How does one fix a wood side table, after accidentally using oven cleaner instead of furniture polish on it? (both canisters were yellow).

You have ruined the finish. You will have to refinish the piece.

Repairing the finish is simple. Take a photo to a hardware store like True Value and they will help you find a finish that will match or blend in well with the rest of the table. Once you've got it, sand the area and wipe it down with a damp cloth.

You can apply the finish in multiple layers until it looks like new again. Make sure to let it dry in between layers. Also, do this outside or in a well ventilated room. The polyurethane stuff has a strong odor and gives off fumes.
