First Birthday Ideas

I'm looking for ideas for my niece's 1st birthday party, there will be older kids and mostly adults. Themes? Games for the smaller children? I'm planning mini finger foods, appetizers, etc.

I found that Disney charades were always a hit with younger children; even adults seem to enjoy charades!

Also, putting small paper notes inside balloons that tell what small "prize" each child receives is fun, and avoids competitive games awarding the party favors.

My daughter's favorite party activity is Twister. This is also a good opportunity for some fun party pictures.

What about "CARE BEARS" good for most ages for smaller children and babies, for games I would print out birthday bear and a bunch of cupcakes with names and have each child tape a cupcake on the bear, musical chairs, Sing old mc donald and have each child be a different animal on the farm parents can sing too.

Keep it simple. Make the party for the older kids and the adults. The baby wont remember it at all. Just be sure there is a photo of the baby blowing out the candles or with the birthday cake.

Don't buy a lot of gifts. contribute instead to a college fund or join UPromise as your gifts to the child.

I am doing my nieces party also. Themes you could consider are: care bears, farm animals, Noah's ark, abc's, butterflies, lady bugs, balloons, princess, flowers, fairies, rubber duckies, luau, ice cream, or winnie the pooh.

The older kids can do a craft that matches the theme. I am planning on having a bubble machine at my nieces party. All kids love bubbles. You could also set up a sundae bar. Get lots of toppings for ice cream(candies, m&m's, crushed cookies, gummy bears etc.) and let guests make their own treat. That would go great if you use the ice cream theme, but would still be fun for any other party. You could set up a ring toss or ball throw using things around the house and tape pictures of the appropriate characters on them.

Hope this helps!

It's been my experience that kids just like to get together and run around so don't worry too much about too many activities, but cookie decorating could be a calm, quiet activity. For my daughter's b-day I'm gonna set up licorice laces and fruit loops for the kids to make necklaces. I've seen coloring books and crayons set out, hula hoops, bean bag toss games. For food I would keep it simple so you can enjoy yourself order pizza, make pasta salad ahead of time, if anyone offers to bring something let them! Have a great time!
