The "a" key on my Smith-Corona Electric Correction II typewriter. It moves forward and returns fine, but does not produce a printed "a" on the page. I replaced the ribbon and still no luck. Do you have any suggestions?

Usually, when someone starts using a vintage typewriter they will need help more than once.
There are several sites available online that may be able to help answer your questions.
First - be sure you have replaced the ribbon correctly. If yours is not in a case - I believe this info is for your model.
From repair site:
"the lift of tape has a dull side and a bright side make sure the dull side is toward the paper then press and hold the code key and the = key to reset the typewriter also see page 6 in the owner's manual."

This may be a simple 'repair' but most questions are better answered by an experienced repair person.
Open the cover and straighten out the key, if it is bent.
Check if the daisy wheel locked in the forward position.
Pull the black lever back, away from the platen.
Lift out the daisy wheel and inspect it for damage.
Check if the ribbon moving
If the hammer has been striking in one place, there will be a clear area near the center of the ribbon.
Check if the hammer strike the daisy wheel.
If the hammer impacted the daisy wheel, did the ribbon advance with each keystroke?
The typewriter memory may need to be reset.
It looks like your typewriter has two cam assemblies under the ribbon holder. One operates the print hammer and second operates the correction ribbon lift. Sometimes these will hang or lockup. Sometimes turning on and off a few times will take care of it, but sometimes it needs to be worked on by a t/w tech.
