I only wear elastic waist pants. But being slightly under 5 feet, my pants were always too long. Great for those growing children too.
I simply make a small slit in the hem and insert elastic. You can either sew or tie the elastic closed. Sew the slit back up and you are good to go. I can hem a pair of pants in less than 5 minutes by myself.
While it's not appropriate for more formal wear such as offices, it's good for pants around the house, keeps the cold out in the winter. This hem can last through several growth spurts of children.
