In addition to food, consider donating paper goods, toiletries, feminine products, school supplies, and over-the-counter medications. Food stamps do not cover these items, and they can eat up a good part of the budget. If you coupon, as I do, you can get these items for pennies on the dollar or even free.

Being a former counselor at a woman's shelter, I can attest to this. So many of the homeless need socks as well as these items. Thank you for sharing this. I would give you more than 1 thumbs up if I could!!
Yes! Socks would not be found in a thrift store. Thanks for bringing that up.
The 99¢Only Stores do carry basic men's, women's, and kid's socks -- one or two pairs for 99¢. Also mittens, and some gloves, scarves.So does Dollar Tree, and a few others.
