Do potatoes cooked in a casserole freeze well?

It has been my experience that potato dishes and soups dont freeze well. They end up with a grainy texture.
I have never had a problem freezing soups. Just put your soup in freezer-safe containers and youre all set. I confess I have never frozen a cream soup, though.
About potatoes, my mother used to tell me that frozen and thawed potatoes had a change in texture. Now ive read that RAW potatoes that are frozen have a texture change, but cooked potatoes are fine to freeze. I guess Im about to find out, as I made too much Sausage Stew (with carrots, potatoes and peas), and Im freezing half of it.

When I make stews with huge chunks of potatoes, that seems to heat back up nicely. Not so much with mashed.
There are a few things that don't freeze well, and potatoes are one of them. It seems that they hold water and when you freeze them it changes the texture in the potatoes. I wouldn't suggest freezing them, but if you do, don't defrost them and try to heat it up.
