My washer came to the final rinse and made a very loud banging noise. Metal pieces entered into the wash. Now it won't fill, spin, or drain.

From your description, the washer may have a serious problem, probably one not easily fixable from anyone here. Suggest an evaluation from an appliance-washer repair service.
We had a problem with our old washer; it was at least 20 years old and had performed valiantly. Sears sent a repair person to analyse the problem and, as we expected, the repair would cost more than a new washer and even finding the old parts might have been a problem. We bought a washer from Sears and received a $75 credit for the total cost of the evaluation.
