We had a broken bed and had planned on making a grow box this fall for our winter garden, so we used bed parts to make it.
Supplies:
- 2 by 8 wood, cut to match length and width of bed frame, 1 extra piece for width to go in middle
- 1 sheet wafer board or plywood, cut to dimensions of wood frame, cut to length and width of bed rail
- bed rail
- headboard
- footboard
- screws
- drill
- exterior paint and brush
- roll of window screen
- bagged garden soil
- miter saw
Steps:
- Screw sides of wood together using a drill for holes and adding screws to make a frame. Add third piece of 2 by 8 wood, cut to the width of frame, and screw in the middle of frame. This is for added support.
- Drill holes and screw piece of wafer board or plywood to wood frame made in previous step.
- Paint frame to protect from sun and weather. Lay on top of bed rail. Drill holes in bottom for drainage.
- Add screen to inside of wood frame. Add potting soil.

That's really cute! I've seen people use head and footboards in the garden but never as a raised "bed". What are you planning on growing this winter?

Whatever Home Depot sells here in Arizona is what we select from. We plan to purchase some plants this weekend and get them planted.
