To get more juice out of a lemon, microwave it for 10 or 12 seconds and then roll it on the countertop.

To get more juice out of a lemon or lime, drop it into a bowl of warm water for a few minutes before squeezing.

Pop them into the microwave for 10 seconds - works great! (07/25/2005)

You guys must live in the North. I just pick one off the tree.
Leave one lemon out. Next time you need a lemon, take one from the fridge, but use the one that's out. Of course, if you use a lot of them, use a lovely bowl for a nice display of three or four lemons on your table. (10/21/2005)

I had another thought...
The best way to get more juice out of lemons is to get the right lemons in the first place.
In the uptown stores, people buy lemons for size, shape and color. Nice, oval, shiny yellow lemons, right? Not juicy lemons. Tattooed even, but not juicy. Juicy is what they want when they get home.
Whereas the guys who work in the groves really know their lemons. The pretty lemons are not the juicy ones. The pretty ones have thicker skins and not much juice. The juicy ones are small, round, ugly and very juicy. They have almost no skin, and so they are almost all juice. Those are the ones I buy.
Where do I buy them? In the grocery stores where the guys who know their lemons shop. The prices are lower, and the lemons are the juiciest. Not everything in the store is what you'd like. But they do have the juiciest lemons. (10/21/2005)

I agree. My tree puts out about a thousand lemons at a time and is constantly starting a new crop. Aren't we lucky! I give away the pretty ones to my friends and keep the ugly ones for my own juice.
