Getting Canvas Donations for a Girl Scout Project?

My daughter is good at art. For her Girl Scout project, she was thinking of creating oil paintings and donating her paintings to a non-profit organization. She and her group of friends are aiming to make 60 paintings on 24"x30" or bigger canvas. Where can she go and ask for canvas donations?

Put want ads on Freecycle, Craigslist, OfferUp and Letgo. Go to art supply stores and see if they will give you any.

Michaels Crafts also works girl scouts. Maybe they can help!

I have found in today's world companies are less and less inclined to help kids these days because too many people are asking, but that could just be where I am located.

My suggestion is to turn this into a learning lesson where she treats it like she is a business start up...set up a Go Fund Me account to tell her story.

Have her craft her pitch about her project. She will need to be very clear that if she can raise X number of dollars and get X number of coupons for a big box store, she can get X number of canvases for her project. She can also craft what the project will mean to her and her community. I think this would be an amazing way to teach multiple lessons and create a really lovely success story!

I think family and friends will be generous to a Scout who shows initiative and a clear idea for what she wants!

Post back with an update! Blessings to her on her project!!!

Thank you all for great input! It is definitely great learning process for her, as well as to me, otherwise I will not stumble upon this great website. I will keep you all updated!

I don't know if your town has a local newspaper or not, but when I was a feature writer many years ago, this was the type of "feel good" story we wanted. Perhaps that could be a way to publicize the need and the Go Fund Me info (if you go that way) and then share the story when all of the paintings are done.

Blessings to your Scout and you!!!

I believe the Go Fund Me is an excellent idea.
You might also check on any art classes in your area as they may be keen on helping new painters.

Place free ads in several selling sites as many people read these ads.
Just make a short description of what they are doing.
They may also set up a table outside select stores with signs explaining what is needed and have collection containers so people can donate money for canvases.
Art stores may not give you any for free but they may give you a good discount. They may also let you set up a table for donations - artists helping artists.

Good luck..
