Getting Rid of Bed Bugs?

A month ago we found bed bugs in our new sofa. We continued to search and found a couple more in our bedroom. Needless to say we threw everything out of our house that was not nailed down. We bought all new bedding and furniture and had an exterminator come in twice just to be safe. Since the first extermination we have seen a total of five bugs. I'm pretty sure I saw an adult bed bug the other day while vacuuming our new sofa, but I smashed it so fast with a bobby pin it wasn't recognizable anymore and the only parts left of it were black. We have placed double sided tape around our bedroom and new matress. I keep getting little red hive looking things on me, but usually only one at a time. My two year old gets them around his outer diaper region. My husband is trying to convinve me I'm crazy because I am always searching for these god awful bugs. I don't sleep lol. Since I'm not able to find any proof of any more bugs do I still have these things? The exterminator is not of much help either since we can't find any alive bugs. I'm constantly itching like crazy. Is this all in my head?

I would keep treating for them for another 30 days. They can even live in things like tvs, radios...and such. Also, there is the possibility that you may be tracking them in from elsewhere.

I would save any bugs I found and put them in a bag. Do not crush. You will find out soon enough if you have bedbugs.

I went through this too. It turns out my neighbour in the next loft over, his 3 dogs had fleas and they were jumping over to me because our places were side by side. Is this possible for you?

Yes we have a dog that stays mostly outside or our kennel in the garage. We also have neighbors and im positive they have a flea problem but our yards are about fifteen feet apart?

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this! Female bed bugs can lay a lot of eggs so they still could be around!

There is a lot of research online:

Considering the bites around your 2-yr old's diaper area would lead you to believe it may be flea bites. you do not say whether you have a pet but you could still have fleas if anyone visits with pets or you have neighbors with with pets.
Another question is do you know where your original bed bug infestation started? Is this a new house to you or did you travel and bring them home with you? I'm only asking because bed bugs can live a long time and if they have been around a while, they may still be hidden someplace. After all, terminators may be good at their job but it does appear they would be concerned about your findings and at least take another look. Bedbugs are very adapt at hiding (even just a small corner of wallpaper "peel").

Most sites on bedbug removal will suggest placing a plastic cover over your mattress and box springs as will as "traps" under legs of bed and sofa and wash everything removalable in very hot water and hot dryer.
I would suggest (for your peace of mind) reading everything I could find on the nature of bedbugs (and fleas) and try some of their suggestions. Just remember - many sites have good information but they may still be trying to sell something.
Here are a few links but there are plenty more as this is a pretty common problem:

Thanks very much for the input. We have lived in our home for a couple of years and we originally found these nasty little bloodsuckers in our new sofa. We searched every other room and found just a couple of nymphs on our bed. It was about three or four weeks after we had the sofa so im not too positive if thats where they originated. I have an outside dog no other pets. We have searched every nook and cranny, removed everything from our house and bought new.

I am not a fan of ants let alone anything else. My husband is very annoyed because i am constantly trying to find whatever is leaving these itchy marks. The exterminator has been here twice and i dont think he believed we had them. So now i am in search of a live bug but sleep with every light on. So not much luck yet lol.
