No Downey soap is not the same as Dawn dishwashing soap for killing fleas. If you don't have Dawn dishwashing soap follow these steps:
Step 1
Add a teaspoon of vinegar to your dog's water bowl. You can use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. I normally use apple cider vinegar in my dog's water bowl.
Step 2
Fill your bathtub or large tub with warm water and add ½ to 1 cup of Dawn dishwashing soap to the water. Soak your dog in the tub of water for 5 minutes. Use the water in the tub to wash your dog. Start to clean the dog around the head and neck area first and work you way down to the tail
Step 3
Now add 1 cup of vinegar to the bath solution in the tub. Rinse the dog in this water starting at the top of his head and working down towards the tail.
Step 4
Now use a flea comb to comb the dog. Have a bowl of soapy water and vinegar next to the tub. Rinse the comb in the bowl to kill the fleas.
Step 5
Rinse the dog in warm water.
Step 6
When the dog is dry, comb him again with the flea comb. Put the comb in a bowl of soapy water and vinegar to kill the fleas.
Step 7
You can now spray your dog with a spray bottle of water and vinegar to help kill the rest of the fleas on the dog.
Step 8
You will need to clean your floors, furniture and the area where the dog sleeps with a spray bottle and 1 tablespoon of Dawn dishwashing soap. Spray the area and wipe down with a clean cloth. You can add 2 or 3 drops of Dawn soap to your steam cleaner when cleaning your carpets.
