I need help dealing with fleas in the outdoor dog run. It is covered with wood mulch. The dogs also have access to a limited part of the garage which will be easier to deal with. Is diatomaceous earth of any use? Flea baths and topical flea meds are scheduled.

I love using diatomaceous earth (food grade only of course) but using out side does not have as many benefits as using inside - at least that is my opinion. Rain/water just tends to wash it away quickly. You may want to try Borax for your garage. There are some good topical and also flea treatments for food now and especially great are the 24 hour (we use generic) supplements but these only kill adult fleas so you still need regular monthly treatments. We find good bargains on eBay and so many you can buy now for largest dogs and just break it down to the size of your dog (weight) and it saves a lot of money with several dogs to treat.
My son uses something called beneficial nematodes and it seems to work for him.
Here is a link to some good suggestions and also some information on nematodes.

There also flea bombs that can be used.
